April at Home: A Slow Return to Spring

Seasonal

BY CATE

A look back at April at home: simple seasonal shifts, early spring rhythms, and the moments that made this month feel meaningful.

There’s something about April that always feels like an exhale.

After months of living closely indoors, wrapped in layers, in routine, in winter, April is a warm welcome. Not all at once, and not perfectly. But in small, meaningful ways that remind you the seasons are shifting again.

This past month felt like exactly that in our home. A subtle transition. A soft reset.

A Home in Transition

April wasn’t about big transformations or dramatic before and afters. It was about the in-between.

The small adjustments that bring a home back to life after winter.

• letting in more light
• opening windows, even just for a few moments
• swapping textures that feel a little light, a little softer
• noticing the way the rooms begin to breathe again

I found myself drawn to simplicity this month. Fewer layers. More intention. Letting the pieces we already have feel like enough.

The Beauty of Everyday Moments

Some of my favourite moments from April weren’t planned or styled.

They were the in between parts of the day:

• morning light moving across the living room
• quiet coffee before the house fully wakes up
• the rhythm of everyday life unfolding at home

These are the moments I’m learning to notice more. And honestly, the ones I want to remember most.

Because this season of life isn’t about perfection, it’s about presence.

Stepping Back Outside

We’re just beginning to step back into the garden again.

It’s still early here in Ontario, but you can feel it, everything waking up slowly beneath the surface. The anticipation of planting, of longer days, of time spent outside again.

This month looked like:

• starting to plan out garden spaces
• thinking through what we want this outdoor season to feel like
• beginning the shift from indoors to out

Nothing fully in bloom yet, but full of possibility.

What I’m Learning Right Now

If April taught me anything, it’s this:

Not everything needs to happen all at once.

There’s value in letting things unfold slowly, in your home, in your routines, in your work, and in life.

I’m learning to:

• create less pressure around productivity
• capture what’s happening instead of waiting for the “perfect” moment
• appreciate the in-between seasons just as much as the finished ones

Looking Ahead to May

May always feels like where things begin to come alive.

More time outside. More energy. More momentum.

I’m looking forward to:

• planting the garden
• spending more time outdoors as a family
• continuing to shape our home in a way that feels both beautiful and lived-in

And most of all, continuing to share it in a way that feels honest and true to this season.

If you’re been here for a while, thank you.
And if you’re new, I’m so glad you’re here.

Homes gathered over time.
Gardens grown with intention.
A life thoughtfully lived.

If there’s one space in our home that’s seen more iterations than any other, it’s this front sitting room. It’s the first room you see when you walk through the door, so I’ve always wanted it to feel intentional, but for years, it never quite landed. That is, until we brought in this beautiful Parma […]
